LAS VEGAS, Nevada — LFA CEO Ed Soares announced today that the promotion will return to Northern California in September. LFA 192 will feature a flyweight showdown when the promotion returns to the Golden State. This will be the twentieth LFA event to take place in the state.
LFA 192: Climaco vs. Dias, presented by Monster Energy, takes place Friday, September 13th at the Kaiser Permanente Arena in Santa Cruz, California. The main event will feature a flyweight showdown between Road to UFC semi-finalist Mark Climaco and Dana White’s Contender Series alum Victor “Paçoca” Dias. The entire main card will be available worldwide on UFC FIGHT PASS® at 10 p.m. ET / 7 p.m. PT.
“We are excited to bring another international fight card to Northern California at LFA 192,” stated Soares. “Mark Climaco is a five-time LFA veteran and he was a semi-finalist on Road to UFC, but he has not fought in his backyard of Northern California in nearly 6 and a half years. He returns to face Dana White’s Contender Series alum and BJJ black belt Victor Dias. This bout features two of the most accomplished international prospects in the flyweight division and will cap an unforgettable night of action for our fight fans in Santa Cruz.”
Tickets for LFA 192: Climaco vs. Dias are available for purchase through Ticketmaster.com.
Climaco (10-2) is a man that is excited to be returning home to fight in front of his Northern California fanbase for the first time in nearly 6 and a half years. In that time, the top Filipino-American prospect has fought in Mexico, Singapore, China, and the United Arab Emirates as well as five bouts for the LFA that took place in Oklahoma, South Dakota, Central California, Southern California, and Minnesota. Climaco trains at American Kickboxing Academy (AKA) in San Jose alongside some of the biggest names in the sport, but has been busy making a name for himself in the LFA and Road to UFC, which is a tournament-based event series where top Asian MMA prospects compete to win contracts with the UFC. Climaco competed on the second season of Road To UFC and advanced to the semi-finals of the flyweight tournament.
Dias (12-3) is a man looking to follow in the footsteps of two Brazilian legends Marlon Moraes and Edson Barboza, who both hail from his hometown of Nova Friburgo, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. Moraes went on to fight for the UFC bantamweight title, while Barboza has been a mainstay in the UFC rankings since joining the UFC fourteen years ago. Dias began training jiu-jitsu as a child and eventually followed Moraes and Barboza to American Top Team (ATT) in south Florida. Dias is now a second-degree black belt in jiu-jitsu and a regional MMA champion in Florida who has also competed in front of the UFC boss last summer on Dana White’s Contender Series. The man known as “Paçoca” now looks to make a big statement in his LFA debut after submitting nine-time UFC veteran Justin Scoggins earlier this summer.
