LAS VEGAS, Nevada — LFA CEO Ed Soares announced today that the promotion will make its first trip to the capital city of Brazil on the final Friday of March with a Championship Headliner at LFA 205. The main event will feature the next chapter in the epic Brazil vs. Argentina sporting rivalry.

This will be the twenty-first LFA event to take place in Brazil after the promotion’s international expansion began in the summer of 2021. LFA 205 will also be the first LFA event to take place in Brazil’s capital city of Brasília, which is located in the Federal District and is the nation’s third-most populous city. LFA has also visited the Brazilian states of Rio de Janeiro, São Paulo, and Pernambuco.

LFA 205: Pires vs. Abojer, presented by Monster Energy, takes place Friday, March 28th at the ASBAC Brasília in Brasília, Federal District, Brazil. The main event will feature a bantamweight world title fight when top Brazilian prospect Vinicius Pires battles top Argentinian prospect Lionel “La Bestia” Abojer. The entire main card will be available worldwide on UFC FIGHT PASS® at 8 p.m. ET / 5 p.m. PT.

“We are excited to bring the LFA Bantamweight World Championship to the capital city of Brazil,” stated Soares. “The LFA began its international expansion in 2021 and we have since hosted 20 events in Brazil. In that time, we have hosted events in the states of Rio de Janeiro, São Paulo, and Pernambuco. LFA 205 will be our first event in the nation’s capital city of Brasília and we will celebrate it with a world title fight. What will make this title fight even more exciting is the fact that it is adding the next chapter to South America’s most famous rivalry between Brazil and Argentina. Vinicius Pires (Brazil) and Lionel Abojer (Argentina) are both undefeated in the LFA and they were both nominated for the LFA Fans’ Choice Awards: Submission of the Year in 2024. Now they will be competing for the LFA’s oldest world title.”

Pires (10-1) will be fighting for his first world title after dominating his competition in 2024. The native of Sumaré, São Paulo, Brazil went unbeaten in three fights for the LFA last year, securing both a highlight reel knockout and submission. The two finishes saw Pires climb to the top of the division, while also seeing him get nominated twice for year-end awards. Those award nominations were the LFA Fans’ Choice Awards: Male Fighter of the Year and the LFA Fans’ Choice Awards: Submission of the Year. The latter of the two came in the LFA’s last international event of 2024, where the jiu-jitsu black belt submitted top Colombian prospect Jhon Tacha with a spectacular Triangle Choke at LFA 197. Now the Brazilian heads to his nation’s capital to face another South American rival in MMA’s version of the “Superclassic of the Americas”.

Abojer (11-2) is one of the most beloved and popular fighters to represent the “La Albiceleste” of Argentina in MMA. Known as “La Bestia”, Abojer, like Pires, is coming off of a career-defining year in 2024. The proud native of San Isidro, Buenos Aires, Argentina made his LFA debut last summer at LFA 187: Brazil vs. Latin America. On the main card of that event, seven fighters from Brazil faced seven fighters from Latin America in an event that would win the LFA Fans’ Choice Awards: Event of the Year. Abojer was one of the biggest stars of the night, as he was the lone member of Team Latin America to walk away with a victory during the team challenge. He did this by submitting top Brazilian prospect Apollo Gomes via Rear Naked Choke. The win also earned him a nomination for the LFA Fans’ Choice Awards: Submission of the Year.
