LAS VEGAS, Nevada — LFA CEO Ed Soares announced today that the promotion will return to Brazil in February with a Championship Doubleheader to kick off Super Bowl weekend at LFA 201. The event will also feature Brazil vs. Russia in a team competition on the main card. This will be the twentieth LFA event to take place in Brazil after the promotion’s international expansion began in the summer of 2021. This will also be the thirteenth LFA event to take place in the state of São Paulo, which is Brazil’s most populous state. LFA has also visited the Brazilian states of Rio de Janeiro and Pernambuco.
LFA 201: Conceição vs. Silva, presented by Monster Energy, takes place Friday, February 7th at the Ginásio do Polvilho in Cajamar, São Paulo, Brazil. The main event will feature a women’s strawweight world title fight when champion Rose Conceição defends her LFA title against top contender Lany Silva. In the co-main event, LFA standouts Marcos Degli and Lincon Santos will fight for the LFA interim flyweight title. The entire main card will be available worldwide on UFC FIGHT PASS® at 7 p.m. ET / 4 p.m. PT.
“We are excited to bring another Championship Doubleheader to Brazil,” stated Soares. “The NFL brought its first game to Brazil to help kick off its current season. Now we are going across town in São Paulo to kick off Super Bowl weekend in Brazil, which is also the birthplace of modern day MMA. LFA 201 will be our twentieth international event and we will celebrate it with two title fights. Rose Conceição”W is the reigning LFA women’s strawweight world champion and the first woman to win an LFA main event in Brazil. She will return in another main event to defend her title against the 2023 LFA Fans’ Choice Awards: Female Fighter of the Year winner Lany Silva. In the co-main event, Marcos Degli and Lincon Santos will fight for the LFA interim flyweight title. Degli and Santos have a combined record of 7-0 in the LFA. The main card will also feature top prospects from Brazil and Russia facing off in an exciting 3v3 team competition.”
Conceição e (7-1) is the first woman to win an LFA main event in Brazil. The affable champion earned her first main event and title shot by defeating Muay Thai standout Mayara Thays in her LFA debut at LFA 143. That bout happened in Recife, Pernambuco, which was the LFA’s first event in the Northeast Region of Brazil. The proud Nordeste won the fight in front of 10,000 excited fans, which was the most highly-attended event in LFA history. The Brazilian National wrestling champion was then scheduled to challenge champion Julia Polastri for the title at LFA 159 in May of 2023, but Polastri was called up to compete on Dana White’s Contender Series. Conceição did not wait long and got her title shot in the main event of LFA 162. That is where she defeated Elaine Lopes, who was an IFMA Muay Thai world finalist and fellow LFA veteran. Conceição was then set to defend her title against Giovanna Canuto at the end of 2023 in Las Vegas at LFA 173, but was forced to withdraw from the bout with an injury. She would return in 2024 with an appearance of her own on Dana White’s Contender Series, but is now eager to defend her LFA title at LFA 201.
Silva (6-1) is one of the most beloved and popular fighters on the LFA roster. This became evident when she won the prestigious LFA Fans’ Choice Awards: Female Fighter of the Year in 2023, which was her first year in the promotion. That year, Silva went 3-0 in the LFA and built up her large international fanbase on the strength of her fan friendly fighting style and natural swagger in the Octagon. The young Brazilian developed these attributes growing up in the Northeastern state of Bahia. This state is famous for its world-class strikers in MMA, boxing, and kickboxing, and Silva is no exception. She is a two-time Brazilian National kickboxing champion and this past summer she became a K-1 kickboxing world champion. Silva also has four wins inside the LFA Octagon over the likes of Sabrina Oliveira, Nawira Ferreira, Sarah Barwick, and Pâmela Mara. The most recent win over Mara came over the summer at LFA 187, which just won the LFA Fans’ Choice Awards: Event of the Year for 2024. The proud Baiana now lives and trains in São Paulo and looks to start 2025 by winning her first world title in MMA in front of her adopted home crowd.
The co-main event of LFA 201 will feature an interim flyweight title fight between two of Brazil’s top prospects as Degli (11-3) and Santos (9-2) vie to become the LFA’s fourteenth flyweight champion. This interim opportunity became available to both men as the promotion awaits the status of its sitting champion Eduardo Chapolin. The reigning champion was originally set to defend his title early in the new year, but is currently awaiting news on the possibility of joining the cast of the UFC’s upcoming season of The Ultimate Fighter (TUF).
Degli vs. Santos now represents one of the most anticipated matchups to take place in MMA in 2025. Degli is a dynamic prospect known as “Tailandês”. This nickname is a nod to his roots in Muay Thai, which is a sport where he is a Brazilian National Muay Thai champion. However, the fierce striker delpoys a well-rounded attack as he is also a black belt in jiu-jitsu. This is fitting as Degli hails from Campos do Jordão, which is known as “Little Switzerland”. The Swiss Army knife of MMA currently has 6 wins via KO/TKO and another 4 coming by way of submission.
Santos is a success story of the famed Rocinha Project. This is a Muay Thai program started by Diego Buchecha to help teach impoverished children in Rocinha, which is the largest favela in Brazil. Often considered a “city within a city”, it has a population of around 200,000 people and is a hub for cultural activity and a symbol of resilience despite the challenges it faces including poverty and violence. Santos joined the Rocinha Project at the age of 8 and excelled in the sport. He would become a Brazilian National Muay Thai champion and LFA star just like his next opponent.
